Ovid Studies

The piece of literature called "The Story of Pyramus and Thisbe" in the book titled Ovid Metamorphosis is a story about two lovers in mythology.  The parents of these two lovers forbade them to see one another and let alone fall in love with each other.  Since their parents forbade them to be with one another, they decided to run away and meet under a magic berry tree located within a cemetery.  As Thisbe ran away to meet Pyramus, she saw a lion and was filled with fear as she ran for cover in a cave.  The lion set to chewing up her veil and left it tattered on the ground.  When Pyramus arrived, he saw the lion tracks and the veil torn to pieces and thought she had died.  He then took his sword and stabbed himself.  When Thisbe came out of hiding, she found her lover dead under the berry tree.  She then took his sword and killed herself.
