What are kewpie dolls?

Featured in magazines as early as 1909, kewpie dolls were very popular dolls that were once given as prizes in town fairs. The kewpie doll was actually named after the Roman God, “Cupid,” and the earlier dolls that were made of bisque and celluloid, and especially those that were signed are now very valued dolls. You can still find Kewpie dolls available for resale today, but you have to be careful where you purchase them because not all supposed authentic kewpies are truly authentic. Just make sure that if you are going to spend the thousands of dollars that some kewpies are worth, that you get an authentic doll.
