What is a Patent Cooperation Treaty

The patent cooperation treaty, which was concluded in 1970, provides a unified procedure for filing any patent application to protect any invention in each of its’ contracting states.

The contracting states which are parties to the PCT constitutes the International Patent Cooperation Union or IPCU.

Any patent application filed under the PCT is also called an international or PCT application.

A single application filed is made with the Receiving Office in one language from there a search is done by an International Search Authority or ISA and also accompanied by a written opinion regarding the patent-ability of the invention, etc. which is the subject of the original application.
