The history of fruit machines

The history of the fruit machine is a very interesting story. The most recognisable machine was built by Charles Fey, working in San Fransisco in 1906. He made a 3 reel machine, with playing card symbols painted on the reels. Called The Liberty Bell, his design was re-engineered by the Mills company of Chicago and then copied by other manufacturers. These early fruit machines were mainly placed in bars. They were hugely popular with drinkers, however, people at the time could easily work out the winning sequence and they were very easy to predict in comparison with out contemporary computer operated systems.
