The pedals of Antique Pianos

When looking at antique pianos, some very important components are the pedals. The various pedals on antique pianos all have different, specific functions. But, the most important pedals are the damper pedal (also known as una corda), and the bass sustain pedal. The damper pedal allows the player to sustain any notes that he has hit, to have a more smooth sound to his piece. The soft pedal, when depressed, softens the notes of the player and allows for a more emotional touch to be demonstrated in any song. Finally, the bass sustain pedal works similarly to the damper pedal, with the exception that it only sustains the bass notes on the piano. This way, when the pianist is playing a piece, the bass can be sustained while the treble (or upper notes) are not.
